Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) announced Tuesday that he had placed an official hold on President Obama’s nomination of John Bryson to replace Secretary Gary Locke as head the Commerce Department.

Inhofe and other Republicans first raised opposition to Bryson in May solely because of his extensive expertise in clean energy and climate change, dubbing him an “environmental extremist” that is “out of touch,” with America’s energy and economic needs.

Bryson, in addition to co-founding the National Resources Defense Council, has held a variety of energy-related positions both in the public and private sectors and is the former CEO of Edison International, an electric power generator.
