Senate Rejects House Spending Bill

10 Mar 2011  |   Daniel Jacobs

Today, the Senate firmly voted down the anti-environment, House-passed spending measure that would fund the federal government through fiscal year 2011.

The infamous House spending bill, which passed in the early morning hours of February 19, represents the greatest single assault on our air, water, land, and wildlife in recent memory. The bill included a one-third funding cut for the Environmental Protection Agency, which would severely hinder the agency from protecting Americans against air and water pollution.

With the House spending bill dead, the temporary government spending bill set to expire next Friday, and a general funding stalemate on both sides of the aisle, the prospect of a government shutdown once again looms over Washington.
