In a letter to the President Thursday nine senators urged the White House to remove from the table the option of eliminating big oil subsidies in deficit-reduction negotiations.

“As you continue your negotiations, we urge you to remember the oil and gas industry is part of the solution,” the letter stated, which was signed by six Republicans and three Democrats. Altogether, the nine Senators have received a combined total of $7.1 million in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry.
