Sens. Paul and McConnell Introduce Bill to Curtail EPA on Mountaintop Mining Safeguards

04 Mar 2011  |   Daniel Jacobs

Yesterday, Senator Rand Paul (KY) and Senate Minority Leader McConnell (KY) introduced anti-EPA legislation that prevents the agency from denying coal mining project permits. The bill attempts to stop the EPA from placing limits on mountaintop removal mining, a literally explosive practice that pollutes streams and the surrounding landscape with sediment debris.

The effort reflects an ongoing push by Republican leadership in both the House and Senate to restrict the EPA from protecting public health and the environment.
