Today, 66,786 Americans called upon Congress and President Obama to invest in a clean transportation system that will reduce our dependence on oil, cut pollution, and provide for efficient transportation options for the future.
The League of Conservation Voters, along with Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and the Sierra Club, delivered the petition to Chairman Boxer (D-CA) of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Chairman Mica (R-FL) of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and President Obama.
"Americans across the country are calling out loud and clear for a transportation system that reduces our dangerous oil dependence, cleans up our air, and puts our country back to work," League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski stated.
Congress has a clear opportunity to advance new policies that would clean up our transportation system. The overwhelming response to the petition has shown that Americans are ready for Congress to act on legislation that will promote clean, efficient and affordable transportation alternatives that meet the needs of today’s communities.
The petition stated: “America needs a transportation system that ends our dependence on oil, cuts pollution, and provides clean, efficient, and affordable transportation options while putting the country back to work.”
