TV Media Ignore Extreme Weather Report

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a new report last week that said climate change will likely lead to an increase in heat waves, heavier rainfall, more droughts and other weather extremes around the world.

Yet, new research from Media Matters for America shows that the IPCC’s findings have been reported by every major print outlet in the U.S., but almost entirely ignored by the television news media, including CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC and CBS. The only mention of the U.N. report on a major TV news outlet was a segment on NBC Nightly News.

As Media Matters notes, this is especially troubling given that television is still the primary source of news for most Americans.
