U.S. Could Run Entirely on Solar Power by 2026

12 Oct 2011  |   Damien Shirley

In the past two years, Germany has installed more than 10,000 megawatts of solar panels.

If the United States had installed solar at the same pace, according to a new analysis, we could have already powered the equivalent of ten western states—ID, MT, ND, SD, NV, UT, CO, KS and NE—using only solar. By 2026, we could power the entire country with just solar energy.

Switching to solar would not only reduce harmful pollution and end our dependence on dirty fossil fuels, it would also help our economy—making America 100% solar could create nearly 10 million jobs and add as much as $450 billion to our economy.
