Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Dr. Ami Bera for election to the U.S. House of Representatives representing California’s 7th district.
“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Dr. Ami Bera for the U.S. House of Representatives because he understands that the policies needed to grow California’s economy and keep America’s competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on oil and curb harmful pollution,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Following the most anti-environment session of the U.S. House in history, we look forward to Dr. Ami Bera continuing his steadfast commitment to protecting public health and the environment in Congress as representative of California’s 7th district.”
Dr. Bera supports efforts to ensure corporate polluters clean up their act and recognizes the crucial intersection between energy innovation, job creation, and national security. He acknowledges that our economy is skewed to the interests of big oil companies, and he pledges to stand up to these companies and their lobbyists. Further, he believes our nation must invest in cleaner, homegrown sources of power, such as wind and solar, and focus on constructing and retrofitting homes and commercial buildings to make them more energy efficient. In Congress, he would support pro-environment legislation like the Clean Water Restoration Act, which clarifies the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal government in dealing with water pollution.
Dr. Bera is challenging Representative Dan Lungren (R-CA) for California’s 7th district. While in Congress representing California’s 3rd district, Rep. Lungren has repeatedly opposed incentives to boost clean energy production and supported efforts to gut safeguards for our air and water. He has an abysmal lifetime LCV Score of2%.*
