Record fundraising pace continues in support of Environmental Champions

WASHINGTON, DC – With a record-setting pace, GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States, have together raised or contributed more than $5 million for pro-environment federal and state candidates in the 2015-2016 election cycle. Last cycle the $5 million mark was reached in October of 2014.

LCV Action Fund’s federal GiveGreen bundling program, which is supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC, helps to raise money for pro-environment candidates at the federal level while GiveGreen in the States is a project of LCV Political Engagement Fund and NextGen Climate to help support pro-environment candidates at the state level.

To date, GiveGreen has raised the most money for U.S. Senate candidates in key races including Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) with at least $374,216, Russ Feingold (WI) with at least $343,612 and Katie McGinty (PA) with at least $319,039.

Last year, GiveGreen in the States focused on Virginia candidates, and this year, the program has expanded to include state-level candidates including gubernatorial candidates Roy Cooper (NC) and Jay Inslee (WA) and attorney general candidates Josh Stein (NC) and Josh Shapiro (PA) as well as state legislative candidates in states such as Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.

“There’s a lot at stake in this election, and the outcome will have a huge impact on the global fight against climate change. That’s why it’s so important to support candidates who will protect American families from the absurd anti-environment agenda of Trump and his supporters in the Senate,” said Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund PAC.

“Reaching this milestone in August shows just how motivated our members are this year to support pro-environmental champions up and down the ballot,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Action Fund.

"This year we have an unprecedented opportunity to elect climate champions so we can avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. The tremendous support for GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States is helping to make sure we win elections from the White House to state houses," said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer.

During the 2014 election cycle, GiveGreen raised or contributed more than $5.8 million to pro-environment candidates, up from $2 million in the 2012 cycle

The GiveGreen total of over $5 million includes all contributions raised or contributed in 2015-2016 for federal candidates, as well as contributions raised and contributed through GiveGreen in the States and by state LCV partners to nonfederal candidates.
