WASHINGTON – Today, a bipartisan majority in the U.S. Senate voted for the Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act, legislation to repeal billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies to the nation’s most profitable oil companies and direct the savings toward investments in clean energy and energy efficiency.

League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in response:

“As American families get slammed with another season of record high gas prices and the major oil companies reap billions more in profits, it’s outrageous that 47 senators continue to stand with Big Oil instead of the American people. We enthusiastically applaud those senators championing efforts to rid our tax system of these unnecessary oil subsidies and invest in clean energy alternatives, while others would cede control of our energy future to the whims of greedy oil executives.”
