Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC plays key role in Governor’s race
RICHMOND, VA - The Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC announced today that it has already knocked on more than 100,000 doors in the Richmond area since the launch of its field campaign to elect Terry McAuliffe Governor of Virginia. The organization has made this race a top priority this cycle, and is among the biggest donors to McAuliffe’s campaign.
"Terry McAuliffe’s commitment to protecting our natural resources and investing in science and technology is resonating with Virginia voters,” said Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC Executive Director Jeff Painter. “We’re going to keep working hard all the way to Election Day to make Terry McAuliffe the next Governor of Virginia.”
“Voters are excited to cast their ballots for Terry McAuliffe and send a strong message to Ken Cuccinelli that his climate change denial makes him unelectable in Virginia,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns.
In April, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters and the national League of Conservation Voters endorsed McAuliffe for Governor, highlighting his common sense approach to clean energy and conservation that will grow the clean energy sector across the Commonwealth and protect Virginia’s natural resources. Their endorsement has since been prominently featured in two of McAuliffe’s television ads, and climate change has become a defining issue in the race.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has built a reputation for his extreme anti-science positions. During his time in the State Legislature, Cuccinelli earned a lifetime Virginia League Score of 27%, and as Attorney General, he has filed frivolous lawsuits to block fuel efficiency standards that save Virginia families’ money and other safeguards that protect public health.
The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund released a poll yesterday of early voters in Virginia, which found McAuliffe leading Cuccinelli in early voting, 57% to 39%. The poll also found that voters trust McAuliffe over Cuccinelli on energy issues by more than fifteen points.
McAuliffe is featured on the Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC’s GiveGreenVirginia website, the only Virginia-based bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions in the state.
