WASHINGTON, DC –The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund announced today that more than $2 million has already been raised or contributed through its GiveGreen program. This represents the most money ever collected through GiveGreen during a single election cycle, which includes $1.55 million bundled for candidates and $450,000 in direct candidate contributions from LCV Action Fund.
“We knew it would take a historic effort to defend environmental champions from an onslaught of attacks from the Koch Brothers and their Big Oil allies, but activists across the country have responded like never before,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.
During the entire 2010 election cycle, $1.3 million had been raised or contributed through GiveGreen, including $1 million bundled for candidates. LCV Action Fund has already shattered this figure with two weeks to go until Election Day, with more money being raised and bundled every day.
The latest GiveGreen totals include more than $236,700 raised or contributed for Tim Kaine in Virigina, $196,500 for Martin Heinrich in New Mexico, $142,700 for President Obama, and $125,500 for Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin. The full fundraising breakdown by candidate can be accessed online at http://www.givegreen.com, which is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
LCV Action Fund works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies. The GiveGreen total raised includes all contributions bundled or donated by LCV Action Fund.
