WASHINGTON, DC – Today the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of Christopher Shays for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary in Connecticut. Former Rep. Shays has an impressive lifetime score of 90% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.*
“Throughout his career in public service, Christopher Shays has been a strong voice for bipartisan environmental legislation, and he understands that a clean energy economy is the key to creating jobs, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and curbing harmful carbon pollution,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Christopher Shays for the U.S. Senate because he has a track record of bringing together members on both sides of the aisle to address the environmental issues that affect the health and wellbeing of all Americans.”
After serving in Congress for twenty years, Shays left the House of Representatives in 2008 as the highest-scoring Republican on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.* During his last term in Congress, Shays introduced the Energy for Our Future Act, bringing a bipartisan focus to building a clean energy future for America. The bill included supporting the manufacturing and purchase of hybrid and fuel efficient vehicles, incentivizing renewable electricity production for commercial and residential property, and developing transit-oriented development corridors in urban areas.
“Preserving the nation's air, water and ecosystems for future generations while wisely investing in our country's abundant energy and other natural resources are conservative principles that will lead to economic growth and enhance our national security,” said Shays.
