WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Nevada State Assembly Speaker John Oceguera for the U.S. House of Representatives in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse John Oceguera for Congress in Nevada’s 3rd district because he has been a dedicated public servant who always fights for his community instead of special interests,” said Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund. “Instead of supporting taxpayer-handouts to Big Oil, Oceguera is standing with Nevadans that want to invest in a clean energy economy that creates local jobs, protects public health, and safeguards the environment.”

“I am honored to win the endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund because they understand that an investment in a clean energy future is an investment in America’s workers,” said John Oceguera, candidate for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. “I appreciate their support in this race and look forward to working with them towards a cleaner, safer, and more secure future for Nevada.”

Oceguera has been a dedicated public servant to Nevada, serving on the fire department for more than twenty years. He also served his community in the Nevada State Assembly, where he rose in the ranks to become the Democratic Speaker. Oceguera recognizes that Nevada’s future depends on the protection of natural resources, greater energy efficiency, and smarter consumption of water.  He supports incentives for renewable energy and ending taxpayer-funded handouts to Big Oil.  Oceguera earned an 86% score on Nevada Conservation League’s 2011 Conservation Scorecard. In contrast, Oceguera’s general election opponent, incumbent U.S. Rep. Joe Heck has stood in the way of environmental protection and earned an appalling 9% score on LCV’s 2011 National Environmental Scorecard.
