WASHINGTON, DC –The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Sherrod Brown for reelection to the U.S. Senate from Ohio. Senator Brown has earned a very strong 93% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“Sherrod Brown is leading the fight to move Ohio forward, consistently voting to support the state’s clean energy industry and the manufacturing jobs that go with it. Brown understands that when we invest in a clean energy economy, we are investing in American workers in Ohio and across the country,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Thanks to Sherrod Brown and other clean energy leaders, thousands of people in Ohio are finding work. Senator Brown earned one of the highest lifetime scores of any Senator on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard, and his record speaks for itself. LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Sherrod Brown for reelection.”
During his time in the House and Senate, Senator Brown has amassed an impressive environmental voting record. He has supported increased federal investments in clean energy to help end our country’s dangerous dependence on oil. Senator Brown also opposes taxpayer-funded giveaways to Big Oil and favors investments in the clean energy sector to create jobs here at home. He has been a strong voice in the Senate, advocating that any international trade agreements include standards that protect the environment and the jobs of workers in Ohio.
"We have a responsibility to leave the world a better place than when we arrived. I reject the false choice that some want us to make between creating jobs and protecting the environment. The men and women of the League of Conservation Voters understand that we can fulfill our responsibility to the planet while also creating good paying jobs at the same time, and I am proud to have their endorsement in this race," said Senator Sherrod Brown.
Senator Brown faces current Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel in the general election. LCV recently named Mandel to its “Dirty Dozen” program, which targets candidates— regardless of party affiliation — who consistently side against clean energy programs that help grow our economy. Mandel opposes clean energy programs that are creating jobs in Ohio and across the country, and his campaign has received $193,550 from the oil and gas industry, who rank among his top-11 campaign contributors.
The non-partisan LCV National Environmental Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.
