WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the national League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of Suzan DelBene for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington’s 1st congressional district.
“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Suzan DelBene for the U.S. House of Representatives because of the great example she’s set as a business leader who knows how to grow Washington’s economy, as a strong voice vowing to protect the environment and public health, and as the candidate best able to carry on the great tradition of environmental champions from Washington,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “We look forward to working with Ms. DelBene because she understands that an investment in a clean energy future is an investment in America’s workers.”
“John Koster has made a career out of being a voice for corporate polluters. Whether he is denying climate change or advocating offshore drilling, John Koster is too extreme for Washington,” said Brendon Cechovic, Executive Director of Washington Conservation Voters. “Suzan DelBene shares our belief that mainstream issues like protecting Puget Sound and farmland shouldn’t be partisan. DelBene cares deeply about protecting our clean air and water, and the voters’ of the 1st congressional district agree.”
In 2010, DelBene was named director of the Washington State Department of Revenue, a role that followed years of business experience helping start new businesses, working as an executive at Microsoft, and as a consultant at Global Partnerships. Throughout her successful business career, DelBene managed projects focused on innovation in technology and economic development.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. I look forward to working with them to pass smart policies that keep our air and water clean and protect our farmlands while boosting our economy,” said Suzan DelBene, candidate for Washington’s 1st congressional district. “As someone with experience creating jobs in the private sector, I hope to be a leader in Congress working on legislation to support a clean economy that will create family wage jobs and get our nation on a sustainable path to energy independence.”
DelBene’s general election opponent, John Koster, is a former Washington State Legislator with a highly partisan anti-environmental record. An avid climate change denier, Koster has voted against climate change legislation to reduce carbon pollution and he has signed a pledge to reject cap and trade policies. Koster earned a dismal 18% lifetime score on the Washington Conservation Voters’ Legislative Scorecard.
The Washington Conservation Voters Legislative Scorecard is a trusted guide and reliable measurement of the Washington State Legislature’s environmental record over the past two years, holding individual members accountable for their environmental votes regardless of party affiliation.
