Washington, DC—The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of Val Demings for Congress (FL-10) today. She is committed to addressing the threat of climate change and protecting Florida’s environment.
Demings joined the Orlando Police Department after college, and in 2007, she was appointed chief of police. As police chief, she led efforts to make the police department’s car fleet more efficient, built a LEED-certified gun range and helped reduce the agency’s carbon footprint.
“Val Demings will be an exciting new voice in Washington,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “We are thrilled to support her campaign as she seeks to continue a lifetime of public service by running for Congress so she can stand up for her Central Florida constituents by working to combat climate change, reduce carbon pollution and grow our clean energy economy.”
“Val Demings understands the importance of our natural resources to our way of life in Florida, and the grave and immediate threat that climate change poses to our environment, economy and livelihood,” said Florida Conservation Voters Executive Director Aliki Moncrief. “She will safeguard the water we drink while protecting our magnificent beaches, oceans, and Everglades for generations to come.”
"The League of Conservation Voters is working hard to protect our environment and promote policies that will address climate change and protect our most vital natural resources and I am proud to receive the endorsement of the LCV Action Fund," Val Demings. "I look forward to working on policies that ensure all Americans have access to clean water, air and that our environment will be protected for generations to come."
Demings is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
About LCV Action Fund
The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCVAF), the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental laws and policies, and defeat those who stand in the way of progress. Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 69 U.S. Senators and 306 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 2013-2014 election cycle, LCVAF endorsed over 70 candidates and raised and donated almost $6 million dollars via GiveGreen. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
