Shows strong grassroots support for sending Markey to the U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, DC –The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund announced today that more than $100,000 has already been raised or contributed through its GiveGreen program for Ed Markey since endorsing him in the Massachusetts Senate race in January. This is the quickest LCV Action Fund has ever raised $100,000 for a candidate, and shows the enormous grassroots enthusiasm for Markey’s campaign.

“The grassroots support for Ed Markey’s campaign has set a new record. This is the fastest we’ve ever raised $100,000 for any candidate and shows the enormous support out there for sending Ed Markey to the United States Senate,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns.

LCV Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who promote sound environmental policies, endorsed Markey for U.S. Senate in January, highlighting how he built his career around protecting the environment and wrote landmark legislation combating climate change and protecting public health.

Earlier this week, LCV and NARAL Pro-Choice America released new polling in the Massachusetts Democratic Senate primary showing that Democratic and independent voters overwhelming support Markey's strong track record supporting a woman's right to choose and standing up to Big Oil. The poll showed Markey leading Congressman Stephen Lynch by double digits, 42% to 28%.

During the 2012 election cycle, more than $2 million was raised or contributed for candidates through LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen program. This represented the most money ever collected through GiveGreen during a single election cycle.

The GiveGreen total raised includes all contributions bundled or donated by LCV Action Fund. A full fundraising breakdown by candidate can be accessed online at, which is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
