Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund today announced that at the end of 2011 the organization had raised $258,334 for pro-environment congressional candidates this cycle through its GiveGreen program, greatly surpassing the combined totals raised during 2007 and 2009. LCV Action Fund raised $82,245 in 2007 and $64,550 in 2009 for candidates.
Navin Nayak, Senior Vice President of Campaigns at the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement on the record fundraising:
“These record totals in an off year are a clear indication that environmental donors are a critical force in American politics. This is only the tip of the iceberg; as Americans see secretive oil billionaires pour money into corporate interest groups, they are more motivated to stand up to Big Oil and with environmental champions. The House leadership’s Big Oil Agenda, which has pushed to give millions to oil companies and weaken public health protections, is motivating environmentalists to back champions of clean energy, air and water like Jon Tester and Martin Heinrich.”
Some of the top recipients of LCV Action Fund’s fundraising efforts this cycle include:
LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, www.givegreen.com, is the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates. LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen raised more than $1 million for pro-environment candidates during the 2009-2010 election cycle, the organization aims to surpass that total in the 2011-2012 cycle.
