WASHINGTON – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) announced today that they have added Connecticut Senate candidate Linda McMahon to their trademark “Dirty Dozen” program and are devoting significant resources to defeating her in November. LCV Action Fund is simultaneously launching a mail program that includes six flights of mail highlighting McMahon’s extreme proposal to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency while standing up for the interests of Big Oil.

“Linda McMahon’s plan to dismantle the EPA and threaten our air and water is just too extreme for Connecticut,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President for Campaigns.

McMahon’s extreme agenda is far outside of the mainstream and out-of-step with Connecticut voters. McMahon has said she would consider abolishing the Environmental Protection Agency, which could end environmental safety standards that protect Connecticut families, increase air pollutants that are responsible for thousands of premature deaths and endanger drinking water. At the same time, her tax plan would give the biggest oil companies $2.3 billion in new tax breaks.

The mail program also highlights that McMahon has said she would consider eliminating the Department of Education, which could cut $438 million from local schools, increase children’s class sizes and prevent nearly 75,000 Connecticut students from going to college.

LCV's trademark Dirty Dozen program targets candidates for Congress — regardless of party affiliation — who consistently side against clean energy and conservation and are running in races in which LCV has a serious chance to affect the outcome. Since 1996, 60 percent of the “Dirty Dozen” have been defeated.
