WASHINGTON – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) named Virginia Senate candidate George Allen to its 2012 "Dirty Dozen" list. This is Allen’s third appearance on the list having been named in 2000 and 2006. Coinciding with the announcement, LCV launched a web video alerting Virginia voters to Allen’s campaign cash from Big Oil and his extensive record voting for special tax breaks to oil companies and against environmental protections. “George Allen has spent his time out of office working for his favorite oil executives and now he’s trying to return to the U.S. Senate to make all their legislative dreams come true,” said Navin Nayak, Senior Vice President of Campaigns. “We’ve seen this movie before and know how it ends: as Senator, George Allen can only be counted on to champion special interests, not the public interest.”

LCV's trademark Dirty Dozen program targets candidates for Congress — regardless of party affiliation — who consistently vote against clean energy and conservation and are running in races in which LCV has a serious chance to affect the outcome. Since 1996, more than 60 percent of the Dirty Dozen have been defeated.
