WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement on amendments to Senate transportation legislation voted on today:

“We applaud those Senators who today stood up to the corporate special interests and helped reject Big Oil’s agenda. Instead of working to get our country moving in the right direction on transportation, the proponents of these failed amendments sought to use this transportation bill as a vehicle to rush approval of the toxic Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, block life-saving clean air standards and increase risky offshore drilling.

We also applaud the bipartisan group of Senators who supported the successful amendment on the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and RESTORE Act, providing the most funding for conservation and Gulf Coast restoration in a generation.

LCV supports the continued efforts in the Senate to deliver a transportation bill that puts Americans back to work and fixes our nation’s crumbling infrastructure.”
