WASHINGTON, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today announced a new billboard campaign targeting Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-24) for her extreme, anti-science views on climate change that align her with Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin rather than her constituents. The mobile billboard, which will be visible across New York’s 24th Congressional District through Election Day, shows the Congresswoman with Limbaugh and Palin and reads, “On climate change, they agree.”
“Congresswoman Buerkle’s extreme views on climate change put her on the side of Rush and Palin and against her constituents,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns.
The billboard campaign is part of LCV’s $2 million Flat Earth Five program, which Buerkle was named to in August. The program aims to defeat five climate change deniers in the House of Representatives this election cycle. More information about the Flat Earth Five can be found online at http://www.lcv.org/flatearthfive.
LCV launched a phone campaign last week which made over 100,000 phone calls to voters across the “Flat Earth Five” Congressional Districts, as part of its effort to unseat Buerkle, Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08), Rep. Dan Benishek (MI-01), Rep. Dan Lungren (CA-07), and Rep. Francisco Canseco (TX-23).
Rep. Buerkle’s voting record is so bad that she’s earned an abysmal 9% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.
