WASHINGTON, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today announced a new billboard campaign targeting Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08) for his extreme, anti-science views on climate change. The mobile billboard, which will be visible across Illinois’ 8th Congressional District through Election Day, reads, “When it comes to climate change, Congressman Joe Walsh keeps his head in the sand.”
“Congressman Walsh usually has a lot to say, but when it comes to climate change, he keeps his head in the sand,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns.
The billboard campaign is part of LCV’s $2 million Flat Earth Five program, which Walsh was named to in August. The program aims to defeat five climate change deniers in the House of Representatives this election cycle. More information about the Flat Earth Five can be found online at http://www.lcv.org/flatearthfive.
LCV launched a phone campaign last week which made over 100,000 phone calls to voters across the “Flat Earth Five” Congressional Districts, as part of its effort to unseat Walsh, Rep. Dan Benishek (MI-01), Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-24), Rep. Dan Lungren (CA-07), and Rep. Francisco Canseco (TX-23).
Rep. Walsh’s voting record is so bad that he’s earned an abysmal 3% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.
