LCV, CLCV Launch $380,000 Mail Program Against Dan Lungren
WASHINGTON – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) today launched a $380,000 mail program highlighting Rep. Dan Lungren’s votes to dismantle the Clean Water Act and allow polluters to keep spewing dangerous mercury pollution into our water and air. The program includes ten flights of mail to 89,150 households in the district.
“You know Congressman Lungren has been in Washington too long when he votes to endanger our water and air by siding with corporate polluters over scientists at the EPA,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President for Campaigns.
“Congressman Lungren votes against clean water, questions the science of climate change and defends Big Coal; it’s just the tip of the (melting) iceberg of his statements and his record that continue to demonstrate he’s totally out of touch with the environmental values of his constituents,” said David Allgood, Political Director of the California League of Conservation Voters.
The mail program is targeted to moderate Democratic men, moderate Democratic and moderate Republican women, and all decline-to-state-voters in the district.
Last month, Lungren continued his assault on the environment and public health by voting for a bill that would weaken industrial pollution standards and roll back public health safeguards. It’s another reminder of why Lungren has a lifetime score of just 4% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard, a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on conservation and clean energy issues. Some of the mail pieces will also hit Lungren for ignoring the scientific consensus on climate change, following his claims that “ideological bias” is driving efforts to combat it. LCV has named Lungren to their new $2 million “Flat Earth Five” program, which aims to defeat five climate change deniers in the House of Representatives this election cycle. As part of this program, LCV is committing significant resources to defeating Rep. Lungren.
