Highlights his votes to put drinking water at risk & gut the Clean Water Act
WASHINGTON – The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today launched a mail program highlighting former Rep. Joe Baca’s (CA-31) votes to endanger our drinking water and gut the Clean Water Act. The program includes two flights of mail to more than 25,700 households in the district ahead of the Democratic primary on June 3rd.
“Joe Baca sided with his special interest allies and voted to dismantle the Clean Water Act and put our drinking water at risk. Instead of doing what’s right, he tried to let corporate polluters off the hook and endanger the health of California families,” said David Allgood, Political Director of the California League of Conservation Voters.
“We can’t afford to have Joe Baca back in Congress endangering public health and siding with corporate polluters over scientists at the EPA,” said Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters.
The mail pieces highlight that Baca voted to stop EPA safeguards against dangerously toxic mercury pollution from boilers, which are the nation's third largest source of mercury emissions. Baca also voted to gut the landmark Clean Water Act and to prevent implementation of EPA safeguards against toxic pesticides that threaten our drinking water. Over the course of his political career, Baca has taken nearly $100,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry and electric utilities combined.
