LCV Congratulates Brown on Victory in Senate Race
WASHINGTON– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski tonight congratulated Sherrod Brown on his victory in the Ohio Senate race. LCV Action Fund raised or contributed more than $73,000 to Brown through its GiveGreen program.
“LCV entered this cycle with one major goal - to build support in Congress for addressing climate change. Sherrod Brown’s victory tonight has shown that the politics of climate change are shifting all across the country. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Brown to confront the climate crisis and move America towards a clean energy future,” said Karpinski.
Josh Mandel’s defeat is a significant victory for LCV’s “Dirty Dozen” program. In September, LCV named
Mandel to its 2012 "Dirty Dozen" list, which targets candidates— regardless of party affiliation — who consistently side against clean energy and conservation and are running in races in which LCV has a serious chance to affect the outcome. Since 1996, 60 percent of the “Dirty Dozen” have been defeated.
LCV and affiliated political committees have spent nearly $14 million this cycle—more than the last three cycles combined—to defend clean energy and climate champions like President Obama and candidates for the House and Senate nationwide. Beyond our independent expenditure work, LCV Action Fund also raised and contributed more than $2 million for candidates, more than ever before.
