Washington, D.C. – Hillary Clinton was announced as the winner of the majority of the states that voted tonight in the “Super Tuesday” 2016 Democratic presidential primaries. Republican frontrunner Donald Trump also won the majority of the states in his party’s primaries tonight. In response League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to Hillary! Tonight she scored a series of big wins in the Democratic primary, where voters have tuned in to her message of breaking down the barriers to progress on key issues like climate change and environmental justice. Unfortunately, Donald Trump’s support in the Republican primaries is of serious concern. An outright climate denier who has claimed climate change is a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese is now the presumptive Republican nominee. To be perfectly clear – with Trump in the White House, all the incredible progress we’ve made these past few years on climate change and environmental protection under President Obama would be obliterated. In the tough fight for the White House, we have already begun pointing out the stark differences between Hillary’s smart policies and outspoken leadership and Trump’s reckless policies and crude rhetoric.”
In November, LCV Action Fund endorsed Hillary Clinton for president—its earliest endorsement of a presidential candidate in the history of the organization and the first endorsement ever made before any votes are cast.
