WASHINGTON – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today congratulates Rep. Mazie Hirono for her victory in last night’s Democratic primary in the Hawaii U.S. Senate race. In May, LCV Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, endorsed Hirono in her bid to become the next U.S. Senator from the state of Hawaii, citing her fierce advocacy for clean energy and strong support of environmental policies that protect public health. LCV is committed to ensuring she wins the general election race in November.
“We congratulate Representative Hirono for her hard fought victory, and we’re proud to stand with her in the general election,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns. “Mazie understands that an investment in clean energy technology is an investment in Hawaii’s economy and America’s workforce.”
Rep. Hirono’s strong voting record on environmental issues has earned her a stellar lifetime score of 96% on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.
