IOWA — Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) hosted two phone banks where Iowa residents voiced their support for the Clean Power Plan (CPP) and encouraged Governor Branstad to take action. Iowa House of Representative Jo Oldson and Mike Carberry of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors kicked off the Des Moines and Iowa City phone banks. Both leaders emphasized the importance of a strong CPP that caps carbon pollution and protects public health and our environment.

“The Clean Power Plan represents the biggest step we can take to combat climate change,” said Tim Mahern-Macias on behalf of LCV. “Today’s day of action brought together citizens and political leaders that support a cap on carbon pollution from power plants—pollution that exacerbates climate change, threatens public health and pollutes the air we breathe.”

“Climate change is the challenge of our generation,” said Representative Jo Oldson. “We need a robust local plan in Des Moines to help combat this challenge. Carbon pollution threatens our health, environment and economy. A strong Clean Power Plan not only protects Des Moines’ environment and health, but also grows our wind energy economy.”
