Raleigh, North Carolina — Today, Climate Action NC, a project of North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV), hosted a press conference and letter writing event to urge Senator Burr, Governor McCrory and other local leaders to support the Clean Power Plan, which will place reasonable limits on carbon pollution for the first time. In addition, both the North Carolina House and Senate are currently considering legislation related to the Clean Power Plan.

“We are already seeing in the impacts of climate change, and the Clean Power Plan represents the single biggest step we can take to tackle this important challenge,” said Tim Moreland, Climate Action NC Field Director. “Today’s day of action brought citizens and political leaders together to support limits on carbon pollution, which put our environment and health at risk.”

“We have an obligation to protect North Carolina’s environment and safeguard public health, said state Representative Pricey Harrison. “The Clean Power Plan offers a commonsense solution to help combat climate change, reduce carbon emissions and protect our planet for generations to come. We need to embrace the flexibility of the Clean Power Plan while simultaneously creating a clean energy economy right here in North Carolina.”

Earlier this week, the affiliated League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a major ad campaign aimed at holding Senator Richard Burr accountable for opposing the EPA’s Clean Power Plan. With the EPA’s final Clean Power Plan rule and related votes in Congress expected soon, the ads call upon constituents to contact Senator Burr and urge him to vote against any bill that would stop or delay implementation of these important pollution safeguards.
