WASHINGTON – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a $95,296 mail program to defeat former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez in the upcoming May 29th primary for Texas’ 23rd congressional district.  The program will include four flights of mail targeting 42,000 households throughout the district.  The mail pieces highlight Rodriguez’s record of standing with corporate polluters, instead supporting President Obama’s clean energy jobs policies.

“Ciro Rodriguez gave his word to the Democratic leadership that he would support President Obama's clean energy bill, but when it was time to vote, he broke his word and sided with the Tea Party instead,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Rodriguez knew that he was turning his back on Texans, which is why he ran out of the Chamber after casting his vote with polluters. We don't need more politicians like that in Washington.”

Background:

  • Rodriguez voted against President Obama’s clean energy bill. As reported by Politico, “Rodriguez had told leadership that he was a likely yes -- but then cast a quick ‘no’ vote and practically sprinted from the chamber, frustrating floor managers whose shouts of ‘Rodriguez!’ rang through the House as the final anxious votes were cast.” [Politico, 6/26/09]
