WASHINGTON, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today launched a $300,000 ad campaign in support of the EPA and Army Corps’ final Clean Water Rule. The ad will premiere on Sunday talk shows in DC, followed by a week on national cable. The ad features a voice narration describing the benefits of the rule, which will protect the drinking water of one-in-three Americans, with shots of three children drinking water. Finally, the ad urges the public to call Congress in support of the rule. You can view the script of the ad here.
“We know that polluters and their allies in Congress are coming out swinging against these vital clean water safeguards. But with overwhelming public support for the Clean Water Rule, this ad campaign is a message to Congress that their priority needs to be protecting the drinking water of 117 million Americans,” said Gene Karpinski, President of League of Conservation Voters. “Failure to support clean water will have consequences with the public.
“By restoring protections for small streams and wetlands, we can preserve the water our children and grandchildren drink, swim, and play in for generations to come. The EPA made the right decision, and now Congress needs to support the Clean Water Rule.”
The ad follows new public opinion polling done for LCV by Hart Research that found broad bipartisan support, with 80 percent of respondents in favor of the Clean Water Rule, while 69 percent would judge their Senator less favorably if they voted to block the rule.
