LCV Launches Billboard Campaign Across Five House Districts as Part of Flat Earth Five Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today launched a new billboard campaign targeting members of their “Flat Earth Five” program, highlighting their extreme, anti-science views on climate change. The billboards, which will stay up in all five Congressional districts through Election Day, is part of LCV’s campaign against Rep. Dan Benishek (MI-01), Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-24), Rep. Dan Lungren (CA-07), Rep. Francisco Canseco (TX-23), and Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08).

“Passing Rush Limbaugh’s litmus test on climate change is a badge of honor for these members of Congress, but their constituents deserve better,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns.

The billboard campaign is part of LCV’s $2 million Flat Earth Five program, which aims to defeat five climate change deniers in the House of Representatives this election cycle. More information about the Flat Earth Five can be found online at http://www.lcv.org/flatearthfive.

Last week, LCV launched a phone campaign that made over 100,000 phone calls to voters across the five Congressional districts. LCV and the California League of Conservation Voters have also launched a $380,000 mail program highlighting Rep. Dan Lungren’s votes to dismantle the Clean Water Act and allow polluters to keep spewing dangerous mercury pollution into our water and air.  The campaign also hit the airwaves – LCV has launched a $600,000 television ad campaign criticizing Rep. Canseco for voting to protect tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas while voting to provide tax cuts for millionaires like him, and the Michigan League of Conservation Voters  have launched a $330,000 television ad campaign criticizing Rep. Benishek for his efforts to slash clean water standards protecting the Great Lakes.

LCV will continue dedicating significant resources across these five districts, including television advertising and direct mail, to let voters know that these members of Congress are dangerously out-of-step with their district on the issue of climate change.
