WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has recently launched a grassroots program, GreenRoots, to mobilize its members as volunteers in nine Senate races across the country where the outcome is critical to environmental progress. The program includes at least 75 field staff in Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina and Oregon with a goal of recruiting 2,500 members to complete 5,000 volunteer shifts. In the first couple of weeks, over 500 members have already completed more than 1,186 volunteer shifts for the Mark Udall, Michelle Nunn, Bruce Braley, Gary Peters, Al Franken, Jeanne Shaheen, Tom Udall, Kay Hagan and Jeff Merkley campaigns.

“LCV’s GreenRoots program is recruiting our members to volunteer on key Senate races between now and Election Day, and the early response has been fantastic,” said Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “It’s clear that LCV members appreciate how hard these candidates work to fight climate change and protect public health and the environment, and now our members are working hard to make sure these candidates win on Election Day.”

“I’ve partnered with the League of Conservation Voters to tackle the issue of climate change and I'm thrilled to have their support in this campaign,” said Senator Jeff Merkley. “Carbon pollution is a direct assault on our farming, fishing and forestry economies, and we must act now to fight climate change and invest in clean energy jobs where Oregon can be a leader in the 21st century. I look forward to continuing to work with LCV on these critically important issues.”

In addition to recruiting its members to volunteer over the next four weeks, LCV Action Fund will also launch its Eagles program, which will embed key staff from LCV and our coalition partners in a variety of competitive House races.
