WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement on transportation legislation introduced today by House Republican leadership:

“The transportation bill unveiled today by Chairman Mica is a clear giveaway to Big Oil, undermines bedrock environmental laws, and seeks to force a permit on the recently rejected Keystone XL pipeline. This is just the latest effort by House Republican leadership to push polluter handouts under the guise of job creation.

Fortunately, Senate leaders have made clear that this proposal is going nowhere in their chamber. We encourage the leaders in the U.S. House to drop this harmful proposal and put forth a serious attempt to put Americans back to work and to fix our nation’s crumbling infrastructure.”
