WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in response to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s proposed 2012 budget:

“Chairman Ryan’s Big Oil Budget will do nothing to make America more energy competitive and would instead continue doling out billions in subsidies to dirty, dangerous energy sources that harm our environment and put our economy at risk. While countries like China and Germany sprint ahead in the lucrative clean energy race, creating jobs and boosting local economies, Chairman Ryan would prefer to keep the U.S. hooked on the failed energy sources of the past that have held us back from competing in the global economy. Members of Congress should reject this backward budget plan and pass a budget that helps transition us to a cleaner, more competitive energy economy.”
