WASHINGTON DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement on House Appropriations Committee consideration of a spending bill today that would make steep cuts to the EPA’s budget, zero out funding for land acquisition under the Land and Water Conservation Fund and prevent efforts by the President to combat climate change:

“This extreme spending bill ignores our obligation to confront the climate crisis, the challenge of our generation. The bill does not reflect the priorities of the American people, and tries to prevent the EPA and President Obama from combating climate change. It carries on the same harmful policies of the 112th Congress, which was dubbed the most anti-environmental House in history. The Republican leadership should listen to the American people and work with the President to enact his popular climate plan, and ensure that the EPA has the ability to do its job.”
