WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement on the EPA’s proposed clean air standards for soot. Soot, also called fine particulate matter, is among the most dangerous forms of pollution since these microscopic particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and blood stream causing premature deaths, heart attacks and asthma attacks.

"Today’s proposal is yet another welcome step toward protecting our families from the harmful effects of deadly air pollution. We look forward to working with the Obama administration to ensure that science and the rule of law continue to guide this process."
