WASHINGTON DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld released this statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s scientific report and draft rule on the Waters of the U.S.:

We are pleased that the EPA is relying on strong, peer-reviewed science to confirm the important connection between upstream headwaters, streams, and wetlands and downstream waters. These valuable waterways, which filter pollution, prevent flooding, and impact the drinking water sources for over 117 million people, should be fully protected under the Clean Water Act, and we look forward to the agency’s long overdue rule clarifying their protection.
