WASHINGTON - League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld issued the following statement in response to passage of legislation in the U.S. House to expedite a decision on the controversial Keystone XL tar sands pipeline:

“With efforts to clean-up thousands of gallons of spilled pipeline oil still underway in the West, legislators in Washington voted to irresponsibly expedite the approval process on the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. This pipeline legislation, which would threaten the environment and jeopardize the health and safety of surrounding communities, is just the latest in a series of reckless bills being pushed by Big Oil and its allies in Congress.”
