WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in response to House passage of H.R. 2578, the so-called Conservation and Economic Growth Act:

“Today's House vote represents an over-reaching assault on America's lands and wildlife that is opposed by a broad coalition of Latino, environmental, tribal, and sportsmen and hunting groups. We are deeply disappointed in those anti-environmental politicians who backed this radical legislation to roll back vital conservation laws on federal lands, gut environmental review, and privatize forest areas for clearcutting in the Tongass National Forest, home to some of the largest remaining tracts of old-growth in the United States.”
