WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement on the introduction of legislation today by Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Upton and Senator Inhofe, Ranking Member of the Environment & Public Works committee, to block the EPA from enforcing commonsense safeguards to curb pollution and protect public health:
“After closed door meetings with energy industry lobbyists, it’s hardly a surprise that these pro-polluter lawmakers have followed through with legislation in both the House and Senate to protect Big Oil’s profits at the expense of public health.
Scientists at the EPA, not politicians in Congress, should determine our air pollution limits. We call on members of Congress to strongly oppose this legislation and any other attempt to block, weaken, or delay the continued implementation of the Clean Air Act’s necessary public health protections.”
