WASHINGTON - Today the Obama Administration made several announcements reaffirming its commitment to clean water, including issuing draft “guidance” clarifying the scope of America’s waters that are protected from pollution under the Clean Water Act.  In response to the release of the guidance, League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski released the following statement:

“We applaud the Obama Administration for taking this important step to safeguard the drinking water that 117 million Americans depend on to live healthy lives.  The last thing Americans need is to wonder if their drinking water is safe.  But for most of the last decade, the health experts and scientists at the EPA have had their hands tied when it comes to protecting America’s waters from becoming dumping grounds for polluters.  The Obama Administration’s announcement means we’re one step closer to ensuring that the waterways we depend on for drinking water, swimming, and fishing are as clean and safe as Americans expect them to be.”
