WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. House passed legislation to block long overdue clean air standards for cement plants (H.R. 2681) - the latest in a suite of attacks on public health safeguards outlined in Majority Leader Cantor’s Fall Agenda.

LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement on the passage of the legislation:

“House Republican Leadership has wasted no time since the passage of the reckless TRAIN Act to continue Majority Leader Cantor’s pro-polluter agenda that lets polluters off the hook, endangers public health and discourages innovation in clean technology. Now they have passed irresponsible legislation to block clean air standards for cement plants to reduce mercury and other harmful pollution that were finalized a year ago by the EPA and are already over a decade overdue. We strongly applaud President Obama’s continued commitment to veto this and other legislative assaults on the Clean Air Act which will increase toxic air pollution, cost lives and drive up health care costs for all Americans.”
