Washington, DC – Today, following Pope Francis’ address to the United Nations, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“On the heels of his powerful climate change remarks at the White House, the Capitol, and the United Nations, LCV applauds Pope Francis for his incredible leadership in fighting the climate crisis and urges the world’s leaders to heed his call to action. As Pope Francis said this morning, ‘Our world demands of all government leaders a will which is effective, practical and constant, concrete steps and immediate measures for preserving and improving the natural environment and thus putting an end as quickly as possible to the phenomenon of social and economic exclusion, with its baneful consequences.’  As the world readies for climate meetings in Paris, the Pope’s message that we have a moral obligation to preserve our shared planet for generations to come is more important than ever.”
