WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement following news that Republicans on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee have boycotted a vote on President Obama’s nomination of Gina McCarthy to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

“Even for Senator Vitter, today’s boycott is a new low. Gina McCarthy is a supremely qualified nominee who has worked under Democratic and Republican administrations, was widely praised for her testimony last month, and has answered more than one thousand additional questions from Committee Republicans alone. By any measure, Gina McCarthy deserves to be confirmed, but Republicans on this Committee are apparently more concerned with scoring political points than protecting public health.”
