WASHINGTON, DC—League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld released this statement ahead of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee hearing today examining the need to update our nation’s outdated chemical policy:

“The Toxic Substances Control Act is badly broken and puts the health of millions of Americans at risk every day. We are encouraged by the bipartisan momentum to fix this outdated law, and we urge members of the EPW Committee to strengthen the Chemical Safety Improvement Act. We especially urge senators to fix the lack of deadlines and the proposal to preempt states’ abilities to act. It's long past time to get dangerous, unregulated chemicals out of the products we use every day.”
