LCV Statement on Senate Passage of Keystone XL Rider in Payroll Tax Extension

WASHINGTON – LCV President Gene Karpinski released the following statement on Senate passage of the two-month extension of the payroll tax cut, which includes a rider on the dirty Keystone XL tar sands pipeline:

"In hijacking the legislative process to advance Big Oil's top priority, Republican leaders in Congress have demonstrated once again that they value 'oil above all' -- and in doing so have effectively killed the dirty Keystone XL pipeline. We are confident President Obama will maintain his commitment to safeguarding our environment and public health by rejecting this dangerous tar sands pipeline, which is not in the national interest."
