WASHINGTON, D.C. - On reports that President Obama will designate the Sewall-Belmont House in Washington, D.C. a national monument, LCV’s Vice President for Government Affairs Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:

“We are thrilled that President Obama is yet again showing his forward-looking vision for the next 100 years of America’s parks by creating the Belmont-Paul Women's Equality National Monument and adding this historic site to the National Park System. LCV cares deeply about voting rights and this new national monument helps to honor the women who fought passionately for suffrage and will help educate current and future generations about that critical period in our nation's history. Not only has President Obama permanently protected more land and water than any other president in history, but he continues to protect areas of significant cultural importance that help tell the diverse story of America through our parks.”
